Sistema di gioco: GURPS 3E Ambientazione: Fantasy Il giocatore che ha proposto la PNG mercante non legge il regolamento né gli handout, e spesso appare piuttosto distratto. Ogni tanto mi chiede di introdurre PNG o creature che però, per vari motivi, non si integrano bene: a volte non sono compatibili con le regole, altre sono fuori scala rispetto alla campagna, oppure semplicemente non si adattano all’ambientazione. Un esempio recente: mi ha chiesto di inserire una PNG mercante, cugina del suo personaggio, residente nella repubblica dei Nani, con tanto di fondaco e abitazione. Come concetto il personaggio funzionava, sia a livello regolistico sia narrativo, quindi l’ho accolta volentieri. Ho però l’impressione che la richiesta fosse motivata più dal desiderio di avere un “porto sicuro” nel caso le cose si mettessero male nel regno in cui vive ora, o magari per procurarsi un alleato in futuro. C’è anche un’altra giocatrice che vorrebbe proporre dei PNG, anche se per ora non mi ha chiesto nulla di concreto. Vorrei comunque essere preparato anche alle sue idee. Di solito narro a gruppi con più esperienza, che conoscono bene sia la lore sia il regolamento. Ho già giocato con persone distratte o poco inclini alla lettura, ma non mi sarei mai sentito di fare da narratore per loro: uno di loro, dopo quattro anni di gioco, si definiva ancora “novellino”. -

Concordo con @Percio sul fatto che il fantasy di D&D non è, o è molto lontano, dal fantasy di Tolkien... soprattutto agli albori, D&D serviva per replicare le storie di Tarzan, John Carter di Marte, Conan... storie pulp, più che epiche, come si evince anche dai primi "atlanti" relativi ai Forgotten Realms (quì gli articoli usciti: nascita, edizioni, 1/2/3/4/5/6/7)... Detto questo, ribadisco la mia opinione, condivisa anche da @firwood, che Gygax abbia copiato a man bassa da Tolkien (oltre che da innumerevoli altri autori, alcuni dei quali tende a non menzionare), quindi non può dire che D&D non è ispirato lameno parzialmente dalle opere del professore. E applicare le regole in maniera rigida, ma imparziale, non significa "tifare per la morte dei PG" (cosa che quasi nessuno fa, che io sappia; quindi non tifare per la morte dei PG mi sembra normale, tutt'altro che "in controtendenza"). La scena sarebbe stata bella, e piena di suspense emotiva, anche se il tiro avesse avuto svantaggio, e anche in quel caso niente avrebbe impedito a tutti di "tifare" per la riuscita del salto. Ora, per carità, non mi voglio mettere a fare disquisizioni morali: l'articolo è chiaramente orientato al lato emotivo e alla passione, e mi sembra giusto prenderlo con spirito positivo e caritatevole. In effetti, la cosa migliore da fare sarebbe proprio separare il piano emozionale da quello delle regole, perché non sono in contrasto (anche se a volte erroneamente lo si pensa). Si può fare una discussione tecnica su se sia giusto che un certo tiro abbia svantaggio o no, e in quel caso la mia esortazione sarebbe di dimenticarsi tutte le questioni emotive, di suspence, di "bellezza della scena" e affini, cercando invece di capire, con obiettività, che cosa lo svantaggio aggiunge e che cosa toglie al gioco in quella situazione. Oppure si può parlare di cosa emotivamente ci soddisfa, e allora è del tutto soggettivo e insindacabile: se qualcuno trae gratificazione emotiva dal dare, o avere, dei vantaggi in certi tiri in certe situazioni, o addirittura a non tirare affatto e avere successo perché è più "fico" così... beh, si può solo apprezzare che condivida il racconto del suo stato d'animo, e stop; contento lui, contenti tutti. -

Sottoscrivo in pieno, mi trovo molto d'accordo su questo. Non per non dare la giustissima importanza alle regole che chiaramente guidano e modellano il gioco ma solo per dire che a volte può starci di non sacrificare i primi due per la terza e chiudere un occhio. Chiaramente la premessa è che ci sia un motivo ben preciso e soprattutto un contributo forte ai primi due punti da parte dei giocatori. A mio avviso l'episodio che hai citato è emblematico: Definirei l'azione del guerriero proprio un contributo "meritevole" di una simile deroga perché incoraggia il gesto "altruistico" nell'economia complessiva del party e crea proprio quella suspense emotiva che hai definito "bella scena", proprio come la definiremo guardando un film e tifando, in cuor nostro, per la riuscita del salto. A mio avviso questo è un contributo positivo alla storia e io tendo ad apprezzarli e "premiarli" quando possibile anche perché nella mia ottica sono "il primo fan" dei miei giocatori. Sarò sincero e in controtendenza forse in questo senso, non tifo per la morte dei pg a meno che proprio non se la vadano stupidamente a cercare. Va precisato che c'è una sintonia specifica e un patto di tavolo ben preciso con il mio gruppo. In un altro contesto ho avuto modo di avere una discussione piuttosto accesa con un giocatore-avvocato piuttosto ligio al regolamento su un aspetto simile. Alla fine abbiamo chiarito venendoci incontro uno e poi si è proseguito a collaborare bene ma per dire che è molto importante capire e condividere insieme al tavolo stile e modalità di gioco del gruppo.

Per quanto detto sopra continua a sembrarmi un'ispirazione di modeste dimensioni. Come se in un gioco di fantascienza mettessi i Jedi ma anche mille altre cose, e poi insistessi con ambientazioni, avventure e uno stile di gioco molto lontano da Star Wars. -
Mi riferivo alla sopravvalutazione di Tolkien. :) Uno dei problemi principali dei prodotti attuali è questo. I nomi nuovi. Che sebbene in alcuni casi colgano maggiormente il significato, secondo me peggiorano totalmente la fruibilità. Forestale? Gastaldo? Ma dai. Ma anche questo probabilmente rientra nel potenziale flame ahahahahah. Per il resto interessante punto di vista. 🔥🤬🔥 Eh ma lo fate apposta! -
Vero, ma il punto non è questo: Gigax dice, e lo ribadisce in diversi articoli e interviste, che NON HA PRESO ISPIRAZIONE da Tolkien. Il fatto che D&D non sia un gioco dalle atmosfere tolkeniane è una cosa, ed è assodato. Ma mente spudoratamente quando dice di non aver preso ispirazione, se non di sfuggita, dalle opere del Professore. Questo è il succo. Che poi un'opera piaccia o meno, va a gusti e sono diversi da individuo a individuo. Se leggi le interviste di Gygax, il suo rifiuto di ammettere di essersi ispirato a tolkien si va via via acuendo dopo la causa con la Tolkien Estate, fino ad arrivare al punto di rigettare completamente la cosa. Che Gygax non amasse particolarmente il signore degli anelli è noto. Che non abbia preso le opere di Tolkien come fonte per diversi aspetti (creature, cultura dei nani, ecc.) è un altro paio di maniche. Il buon Gary era un bugiardo della peggiore specie, come si potrà leggere in uno dei prossimi articoli che - spero - saranno messi online a breve (sto finendo la traduzione e dovrei caricarlo nelle bozze domani o lunedì). Ritira subito quello che hai detto, blasfemo!!!! Questa serie non esiste, non è mai esistita e mai esisterà. E' solo il frutto di un delirio collettivo dovuto all'ingestione di funghi allucinogeni pesantemente avariati!!!!!! Sacrilego 🤣 Ho riportato l'articolo cosi com'è, senza pensare a cercare i nomi corretti (quelli della traduzione originale Alliata/Principe, la traduzione di Fatica mi provoca un effetto estremamente lassativo). Ho sempre trovato questa speculazione molto molto intrigante.
